Dakota Hemp utilizes a Canadian Greenfield Hemp Train decortication system. This specialized machine separates the inner Hurd from the outer bast fiber. Each material is used in their own respective industries. Hurd is used in wood replacements, hempcrete, animal bedding, kitty litter and bio-plastics. While the bast fiber is used in paper, cordages, ropes, textiles and non-woven materials. The uses of hemp are constantly being rediscovered and expanded on, leading to a national change in industry. With farmers looking for an additional crop in rotation, having somewhere to bring a new crop is a huge step in the right direction. Our factory is supplied by a network of nearly 50 farmers, many who are in their 2nd or 3rd year of now growing industrial hemp. With one of the nations largest industrial hemp hurd and fiber supply chain in hand, and the ability to process that hemp right here in South Dakota, has created attention in the hemp industry, with hemp businesses looking to set down roots near by the supply. Ultimately, we realize one factory is not going to supply a nation of booming hempsters, which is why Dakota Hemp will be looking to add more processing facilities across South Dakota as the industry grows.
